FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
|
• |
When should you decide to whiten your teeth? |
|
If you are planning some extensive dental restorations (fillings, crowns, bridges...) it is necessary to go through the whitening process before doing restorations because they will not lighten and after the treatment completion they will probably have to be replaced with the new ones that will match the new tooth shade. | |

What causes tooth discoloration? |
| There are many causes. The most common include aging and consumption of coffee, tea, tobacco, red wine, etc. During teeth formation, consumption of tetracycline, certain antibiotics or excessive fluoride exposure may also cause teeth discoloration. | |
| • | Who can benefit from teeth whitening? |
| Almost anyone. But the treatment does not have to be as effective for some as it is for others. Based on a thorough conversation with you, your dentist will decide if you are an adequate candidate for this kind of procedure. | |
| • | Do many people whiten their teeth? |
| More than you can imagine. A bright smile can make a big difference in everyone's life. The Zoom 2 system makes it easier and faster than ever before. | |
| • | What is ZOOM 2 teeth whitening? |
| Zoom 2 is a process of tooth whitening which uses light to discolorate the enamel. | |
| • | Is ZOOM 2 system suitable for everyone? |
| It is not recommended for patients undergoing PUVA therapy or other types of chemotherapy as well as patients with melanoma or other kinds of skin tumors. Patients taking light-sensitive drugs should consult their physician prior to the whitening process. As with any other teeth whitening procedures, the Zoom 2 procedure is not recommended for children under 13 years of age and pregnant or lactating women. | |
| • | How long does the ZOOM 2 whitening procedure take? |
| The complete procedure takes about an hour. It begins with the preparation (cleaning and protection), followed by 45 minutes of bleaching. | |
| • | How does the ZOOM 2 system work? |
| The Zoom 2 light activates the whitening gel's active ingredient hydrogen peroxide. The oxygen from the hydrogen peroxide penetrates the enamel and dentin and bleaches the tooth, while the tooth structure remains unchanged. The Zoom 2 light helps in activating the hydrogen peroxide and helps it penetrate the tooth surface. A study has shown that the use of the Zoom 2 lamp increases the effectiveness of the gel by more than 26%, with the average improvement of up to eight shades. | |
| • | How long do the results of the whitening last? |
| The color achieved with this kind of bleaching will last a year or two, maybe longer. That largely depends on personal habits, such as smoking, consumption of coffee, tea, red wine etc. But your teeth will always be lighter than they were before. To keep your teeth white, we recommend using toothpaste Sensodyne F twice a day. | |
| • | Are there any side effects? |
| Some patients experience increased teeth sensitivity during the treatment. Zoom 2 generates minimal heat which is the usual cause of discomfort. In general, it is a case of mild increased sensitivity which disappears shortly after the completion of the treatment, within 24-48 hours. | |
| • | Is the whitening procedure safe? |
| Yes. Extensive research and clinical studies indicate that whitening teeth under the supervision of a dentist is safe. In fact, many dentists consider teeth whitening to be the safest cosmetic procedure available. |
